So what is it about going to the airport that makes it so exciting? Even if you're not going on a trip, if you're like me I still love it!
The people watching is a big thing for me. I'm not a creeper or stalker but when your at the airport, you see it all! The arrivals of those loved ones you've missed, the travelers of far away places & long over due vacations. Or, the departures of your loved ones as they head off . Maybe the tears shed are of happiness of a good bye or hello. I also love to watch the planes take off & land. It's an amazing site when you think about it. This massive hunk of metal with all its passengers, luggage & cargo taking off into the sky. its quite the site.
The world unites at the airport. Where can you go to that has so many nationalities at the same time? The diversity of the people & the expressions on their faces is spectacular! Every person there has a story or reason for being there.
My observations:
If you think Rogers or Bell stores have a lot of phones, you need to come to the airport! Everyone is texting or calling someone, playing a game or doing some kind of work. Theres a guy beside me,reading Chinese on his cell phone. On the other side is a woman who pulled out her ipad & is doing work. Me? I'm writing my blog.
When I was a little girl, you dressed up to go on a trip. You got your hair done & wore high heels. A little ridiculous. Especially since those flights were like 8 hours long on a little seat with no leg room. Nowadays, it's more casual, relaxed.
Suitcases have come a long way too. Remember when they didn't have wheels? No, really they didn't exist. Now they come in every shape & size & they practically walk themselves. But how do people travel with just 1 bag? I need a bag just for my hair dryer & stuff! Seems a little crazy but there's even the odd traveller that only has a back pack.
The airport has changed too. It's more modern. Now if you can find a seat, theres park bench like seats for you to wait. Small coffee shops where a coffee is about the price of a small island. Free wi-fi. TV screeens everywhere so you can be constantly checking the status of your flight.
Airport security has also changed. You see a lot more of it. Security people in their uniforms, lots of plain clothes security I'm sure & of course dog security. So if you see Jack, don;t yell out, " Hi Jack", unless you want to be tackled. LOL!
But whatever the reason for going to the airport, next time you're there, take in the sceneary. Watch the people around you, see the expressions on their faces & imagine the many places you could go...
